WWE Champion AJ Styles, Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura def. Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn & Jinder Mahal
At WWE Clash of Champions, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura will team up to battle Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn – with SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan as Special Guest Referees. If Owens and Zayn lose, they will be fired from WWE. Also at WWE Clash of Champions, WWE Champion AJ Styles will defend his title against Jinder Mahal – thus making this Six-Man Tag Team Match at TV’s most heartwarming and patriotic show of the year an absolute must-watch.

With momentum for WWE Clash of Champions at stake, both trios were ready for a fight, with Owens struggling to gain an early advantage against The Viper. Throughout the contest, the teamwork of Nakamura, Orton and Styles proved to be the deciding factor, as the team of Mahal, Zayn and Owens had to rely on The Singh Brothers to turn the tide.

However, the advantage was short-lived, as Styles came into the fray and unleashed a relentless offense on KO. As the contest swung back and forth, chaos soon broke loose as all the participants brawled all over the ring, leading to a Phenomenal Forearm on Owens, an RKO to Mahal and Nakamura delivering a stinging Kinshasa to Zayn for the win.

Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn hit the ring to deliver a passionate address to anyone who would listen, insisting Commissioner Shane McMahon had stepped way over the line when he ordered KO to be handcuffed to the ring ropes during Zayn’s match against Randy Orton last week.

Shane also upped the ante when he made himself the Special Guest Referee for a WWE Clash of Champions tag team match pitting KO & Zayn against Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura and added the stipulation that Owens & Zayn will be fired from all of WWE if they lose. As a result, the outspoken pair emulated General Manager Daniel Bryan’s legendary “Yes! Movement” and attempted to Occupy SmackDown LIVE.

When Daniel Bryan emerged to confront the troublesome duo, he appointed himself the second Special Guest Referee for Sunday’s high-stakes tag match to ensure a fair outcome.

Kevin Owens def. Shinsuke Nakamura
In SmackDown LIVE’s turbulent main event, Shinsuke Nakamura went to battle against Kevin Owens with their respective WWE Clash of Champions tag team partners Randy Orton and Sami Zayn in their corners and General Manager Daniel Bryan joining the SmackDown LIVE announcement team.

When Owens inadvertently knocked the referee to the canvas with a wild right hand, Bryan donned the stripes and jumped into the action as his impromptu replacement. A few wild moments later, when Nakamura turned his attention toward an interfering Zayn on the apron and knocked him to the floor below, Owens capitalized on the distraction by executing the bone-jarring Pop-up Powerbomb on The Artist. Bryan then counted Nakamura’s shoulders to the canvas to give KO a monumental victory.

What do Bryan’s actions reveal about how he will carry himself as the second Special Guest Referee at WWE Clash of Champions? And will Bryan be able to co-exist with SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon, who will also be wearing the stripes?

Still employed on SmackDown LIVE, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn kicked off the latest episode of the blue brand by welcoming one and all to “The Sami and Kevin Show!” Describing SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon’s “vendetta” against them to be just another in a long line of McMahon vendettas over the years, they proceeded to gloat over KO surviving – and winning – a No Disqualification Match against Shane’s “vessel of destruction” Randy Orton one week earlier, as the crafty Zayn got around being “barred from ringside” by only attacking The Viper on the entrance ramp with a steel chair.

The outspoken pair were completely silenced, however, when Orton suddenly slid into the ring and dropped Owens with an RKO outta nowhere. Orton’s strike left Zayn trapped between The Viper and Shane McMahon, who emerged on the entrance ramp and announced that Zayn & Owens would battle in a tag match against Randy Orton and a partner of his choosing at WWE Clash of Champions.

Shane-O-Mac followed up by placing Sami into a SmackDown LIVE showdown against WWE’s Apex Predator and ordered that Owens be handcuffed to the ring rope for the main event match!

Randy Orton def. Sami Zayn (Kevin Owens at ringside)
With Kevin Owens being begrudgingly handcuffed to the ring post, Sami Zayn was left to battle Randy Orton, the Superstar he attacked with a steel chair one week earlier, all by himself. But when Zayn reached the bolt cutters and helped to get them to Owens so his friend could free himself, it appeared the numbers game would overwhelm The Viper. Nevertheless, Orton refused to give in, and after avoiding the Helluva Kick, he rolled up his adversary for the pinfall.

Before he could catch his breath, though, Owens and Zayn launched a 2-on-1 post-match onslaught until Shinsuke Nakamura suddenly emerged to even the odds! As he and Orton dismantled their adversaries with two Kinshasas and a pair of RKOs, it became very clear that The Artist would be the partner of WWE’s Apex Predator at WWE Clash of Champions.

Back in the locker room, Shane raised the stakes even further, making himself Special Guest Referee for the tag team match. He also informed Daniel Bryan that if Owens and Zayn lost, they would be finished in all of WWE.

Despite trying to reason with Daniel Bryan early on in the show, Kevin Owens is unable to talk him out of the match against Randy Orton going ahead. Daniel telling both he and Sami that they don’t get to make the decisions around here. So Kevin walks into the main event against the vicious viper in a No disqualification match, but this Viper bit off more than he could chew with Kevin Owens, and with absolutely no help at all* Kevin was able to defeat Randy Orton one on one, a triumphant victory, skinning the snake. Here’s what WWE.com had to say!

* Sami Zayn may have hit Orton with a chair.

Kevin Owens def. Randy Orton in a No Disqualification Match
After barely avoiding firing (at least for now), Kevin Owens, whose best friend Sami Zayn was banned from ringside, was forced to go to war against Randy Orton in a brutal No Disqualification Match.

Orton, still harboring a ton of resentment for Owens & Zayn being instrumental in Team SmackDown’s defeat to Raw at Survivor Series, held nothing back against KO right from the get-go. The match saw it all, including Kendo stick attacks, savage superplexes and a plethora of physicality.

However, Zayn found a way to interject himself, waiting until Orton and Owens fought to the top of the stage and were not technically at ringside (thus Zayn was not breaking Shane McMahon’s stipulation), to take full advantage of the No Disqualification parameters. Zayn viciously attacked The Viper with a steel chair, targeting his left leg.

Orton attempted to fight back after the assault, but KO targeted Orton’s damaged left leg, finishing The Apex Predator off with a superkick and picture-perfect frog splash for the controversial win.

A complicated night for Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, as the clearly biased leader of Smackdown – Shane McMahon – commands them to come to the ring to answer for their rebellious actions at Suvivor Series. But once there Kevin and Sami have no remorse to give, they were perfectly justified in their actions after being so terribly treated by the Smackdown GM’s. They should have been representing Smackdown, not stuck on the pre show, it’s insulting. Shane has far too frail a temper and is about to make a huge mistake in firing them both when the voice of reason – Daniel Bryan – arrives. Telling them that instead of being fired, they’d be in a handicap lumberjack match against The New Day later on in the night. Ridiculous. Kevin and Sami are forced to approach select members of the Smackdown locker room to forge some kind of truce so that they might have someone in their corner for the night, but their efforts go largely brushed off.. except for Rusev and Aiden English. Something that would pay off after the main event! A main event that Kevin and Sami heroically win, overcoming the odds stacked against them and defeating the New Day. Rusev interjects as Big E tries to confront Kevin after the match and Kevin is able to escape to the safety of the locker room. Sami isn’t so lucky, but thats what friends are for!

Once backstage, Kevin asks Daniel Bryan to see reason and not fire them. Daniel says he was never going to fire them, but next week Kevin must face Randy Orton. Er, thanks, we think? Here’s what WWE.com had to say!

Disgusted with Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn for interfering during the Men’s Traditional Survivor Series Match this past Sunday, SmackDown LIVE Commissioner Shane McMahon called the troublesome duo to the ring to address their controversial actions. Owens & Zayn heeded his call, hitting the scene and doubling down on their actions, claiming they would’ve brought home victory for Team Blue had they been given a more prominent role this past Sunday. With KO & Zayn clearly showing no remorse, it seemed Shane was gearing up to channel his father and passionately fire the duo, but Daniel Bryan arrived to offer an alternate suggestion.

The Team Blue General Manager informed the WWE Universe that he had to send Randy Orton home tonight because The Viper claimed he couldn’t be held responsible for his actions when he encountered Owens and Zayn. Bryan stated that Orton wasn’t alone, and virtually the entire SmackDown LIVE roster felt the same way. Thus, tonight, Owens & Zayn would take on The New Day … in a Lumberjack Match!

Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn def. The New Day in a Lumberjack Match
With their jobs potentially in jeopardy, Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn begrudgingly squared off against The New Day in a Lumberjack Match on SmackDown LIVE.

Surrounded by a plethora of Team Blue Superstars who were obviously none-too-pleased with KO & Zayn after they betrayed Team Blue at Survivor Series, Owens and Zayn did their best to survive. However, the order was a tall one, as none of the lumberjacks seemed all too motivated to force either Big E or Kofi Kingston back into the ring whenever they exited, but would immediately pounce on Owens and Zayn.

Owens and Zayn got the reprieve they were looking for when Baron Corbin missed Zayn with a punch that instead connected with Bobby Roode, setting off a brawl between all the lumberjacks. The commotion allowed Zayn to catch Kofi off-guard with a rollup to score the 1-2-3. Following the match, Rusev & Aiden English (who Owens and Zayn had asked for assistance earlier in the evening) also struck down on The New Day, attempting to blindside the group and helping KO escape through the WWE Universe.

The New Day fought back, as Kofi Kingston leapt off the top rope to the outside to neutralize The Bulgarian Brute and The Mozart of Maheym. From there, The New Day decimated Zayn with Trouble in Paradise and The Midnight Hour.

Owens, who managed to avoid The New Day beatdown, didn’t fully escape, as he was greeted by Daniel Bryan after dashing to the backstage area. After pleading with The “Yes!” Man not to fire him and Zayn, KO was met with a bombshell announcement when Bryan informed him that he would face off against Randy Orton on SmackDown LIVE next week!
